IQNA – A new Lancet study offers more evidence of the catastrophic human cost of Israel’s genocidal campaign against the Palestinian people, a US Muslim advocacy group said.

The Israeli regime has killed nearly 70,000 Palestinians in its genocidal war on Gaza.

The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) on Monday said the new study published in The Lancet – one of the world’s leading medical journals – showing that more than three million years of human life have been lost in Gaza is just the latest evidence of Israel’s genocide targeting the Palestinian people.

That study analyzed data on 60,199 Palestinians slaughtered by the Israeli regime between October 7, 2023, and July 31, 2025, and calculated that each death resulted in an average of 51 years of life lost. The study showed that most victims were civilians and that more than one million life-years lost involved children less than the age of 15.

The authors noted that their figures are conservative, only counting direct deaths from military action and excluding those who died from destroyed infrastructure, restricted food and water, and collapsed medical services.

In a statement, CAIR National Executive Director Nihad Awad said:

“This new Lancet study offers more evidence of the catastrophic human cost of Israel’s genocidal campaign against the Palestinian people. To speak of three million years of human life erased is to confront the true scale of this atrocity – generations of children, parents, and families wiped out. It is a deliberate effort to destroy a people.

“The United States and the international community must end their complicity by halting all military aid to Israel and supporting full accountability for these crimes under international law.”

Last year, CAIR said a letter published in The Lancet estimating that some 186,000 may have died since Israel’s invasion of Gaza up to that date similarly proved that a genocide is occurring.

Last week, CAIR called for the application of the Leahy Law on Israel after a report by the State Department’s Office of Inspector General that found “many hundreds” of possible human rights violations by Israeli military units in Gaza.
